Manus is a general-purpose AI agent that plans and executes multi-step tasks to deliver complete work products — such as websites, slide decks, images, research reports, and music — rather than just chat-style text replies. The company describes its mission as building "general AI agents as the Action Engine for life," stating it wants to "extend human reach by giving everyone the code to leverage their life."
From a single prompt, Manus can generate full-stack web apps and websites (including database, authentication, and payment integration); presentation slide decks built on a Nano Banana Pro model tuned for legible, multilingual text and more accurate charts than general-purpose image models typically produce; images and design assets on an interactive canvas that can browse websites, watch videos, and analyze documents to inform the design before creating it; and original, royalty-free music with matching artwork, refined through conversation. It can also operate a real browser to complete multi-step tasks using the user's own logged-in sessions, and for research-heavy work it can break a request into up to hundreds of parallel sub-tasks handled by separate sub-agents, then combine the results into a single report — a capability the company calls "Wide Research," which its own pages describe as avoiding the "context window saturation" that causes traditional AI tools to produce briefer, more generic output as a batch grows.
Manus is also available as a downloadable desktop app, a Slack integration, and an email-based interface ("Mail Manus"). As of this writing, the company's website states that "Manus will soon resume operating as an independent company."
